ABOUT

A Bit of Background

Talented Sisters Who Exemplify Excellence Through Sisterhood was founded in 1990 on the campus of Virginia Union University by T-Phi big brothers Gerrad "Earthquake" Hackney & Sean B. Owens. We also have chapters at Virginia State University, Elizabeth City State University, and Bowie State University.

TSWEETS is a band fellowship committed to assisting collegiate band directors and staff in any way possible, setting an example of exceptional leadership, and being the best bandsmen we can be. Our organization is comprised of women who exemplify talent, excellence, and maturity; we come to work.

RECRUITMENT FOR OVERALL MUSIC PROGRAMS

TSWEETS Band Fellowship is committed to recruitment for the entire music program of respective university and college campuses. While many members become interested and join through the marching band, we know that student enrollment and retention in the music program proper increase available resources and the overall quality of band ensembles.

SCHOLASTIC ENDOWMENT

In the Fall and Spring semesters, TSWEETS Band Fellowship Inc. awards two scholarships for students in the band program. In the fall, a scholarship will be awarded to a female music major in the wind section. In the spring, a scholarship will be awarded to a female auxiliary member upon successful auditions. The hosting chapter determines scholarship amounts.

Eligibility requirements:

  1. Female wind, percussion undergraduate music major or auxiliary member (flag, dance, student band staff) in good standing with respective college or university.

  2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5

  3. One Letter of recommendation from a band staff member.

  4. Essay

MELODIOUS EDUCATION

TSWEETS Band Fellowship Inc, members, are comprised of different sections of the marching band program. Some members play an instrument, dance, twirl, and work on the student band staff. This diversity sometimes means that not all members understand basic music theory and history. In our Melodious Education TALENT, all members will receive basic music theory and history education to continue to make our bands and sections the best they can be.
